Media Guild of the West members support nonprofit organizing
At a January 27, 2025, quarterly membership meeting, Media Guild of the West members voted 94% to 6% to authorize the following resolution:
Whereas, Media Guild of the West’s parent union, The NewsGuild-CWA, represents many nonprofit workers and union staff for collective bargaining;
Whereas, Media Guild of the West has grown rapidly since its founding in 2019 by organizing local newsrooms and now has the capacity to organize adjacent workers as well;
Whereas, nonprofit workers and union staff, like journalists, work in mission-driven professions and face similar work pressures;
Whereas, all workers deserve a union;
Therefore, be it resolved: The members of the Media Guild of the West, TNG-CWA Local 39213, support efforts to organize nonprofit workers and union staff and for those units to affiliate as full and equal members of the Guild, pursuant to all the rights and responsibilities laid out by Media Guild of the West’s bylaws and The NewsGuild-CWA and Communications Workers of America constitutions.
